| Building a sustainable future |
| |
The construction and infrastructure development industries are two of the largest industries in Oman and a major contributor to capital generation and employment. The built environment has a major influence on the quality of life of all members of society and on the economic prosperity of the nation.
Programme
Through a blend of theory and practical skill development that bridges the gap between industry and academic study, this programme relates to the introduction of the most common practices of civil engineering. It leads on to cover areas such as wastewater treatment, solid waste management, structural design and the rehabilitation of structures. Modules such as Environmental Sciences are introduced to create awareness of environment-related issues, important for the protection of natural resources. Students also learn how to manage the execution of projects by setting goals, planning time, preparing budgets and considering indicators of quality while at the same time being sensitive to environmental constraints.
Placement
Placement opportunities are provided in companies involved in building projects such as bridges, roads, harbours, dams and airports.
Career Opportunities
A broad range of career options in Oman and abroad exist in the public and private sectors with civil engineering contractors, civil and structural engineering consultants, and in national and local government agencies in areas including water supply, sewerage, road and bridge design and maintenance, building regulations, compliance and assessment of engineering material by laboratory analysis.
Awards
This programme will be eligible for an internationally recognised Honours Degree awarded by Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland, UK. Two exit options are available as given below:
- On successful completion of Level 2: Award of University Diploma
- On successful completion of Level 4: Award of BEng Honours Degree
The Diploma awarded after Level 2 is equivalent to Diploma (Oman) and BEng Honours Degree awarded after Level 4 is equivalent to Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Oman), conforming to the Oman Qualifications Framework.
