Programme Description

Chemical Engineering originated with a need to transform raw materials to useful products. Chemical Engineers use the principles of engineering analysis and knowledge of chemistry to design, build and operate processes that provide society with items such as: petroleum fuels, toothpaste, paint, plastic for athletic shoes or carpeting, insecticides, pharmaceuticals, computer chips etc…   

This programme therefore aims to educate students in chemical engineering, promote interdisciplinary collaboration with other fields, and produce well trained, competent chemical engineers, who are capable of responding to chemical & process industry’s current and future needs.

It is a 4-year full-time B.Sc. Degree, studied entirely in Oman and the award is confer by Vellore Institute of Technology University (VITU), India.

Placements:

The programme is reinforced with structured industrial visits and placement opportunities. While working during the placement, students undertake many assignments to reflect their academic studies to process plant situations. Locally the college is supported by a large number of chemical industries and other companies.  

Career
Career opportunities exist in refineries, petrochemicals, polymers & specialty chemicals, water resources development & recycle, process design & simulation, natural gas processing, desalination, air & water pollution control, research & development, optimization & process control, environmental health & safety industries, fertilizers, cement, biotechnology & pharmaceuticals, pulp & paper, food processing etc. 

Duration
The B.Sc Degree has 4 levels of study; each level is of 2 semester’s duration on a full time basis. For a fulltime student a Diploma in chemical engineering may be completed after two years of study, advanced diploma after 3 years and a B.Sc degree after 4years. Flexible study modes are available for part time students, and the above years to completion depend on the actual mode of study.

The above programmes are fully recognized Degrees awarded by Vellore Institute of Technology University (VITU), recognized in the India and internationally.

Awards may be given at each level of completion as follow.
Level 2: Award of Diploma in Chemical Engineering        
Level 3: Award of Advanced Diploma in Chemical Engineering
Level 4: Award of B.Sc Degree in Chemical Engineering
