The objective of this program is to impart the students with highly specialized technical and conceptual skills needed to integrate design methodology and use Computer-aided Drafting technology across industrial sectors.

The University Diploma Program in Engineering Design comprises of two years of full time study with emphasis to make the students sufficiently competent to prepare, read and understand technical design and drawings related to various Engineering Systems with the use of Computer-aided tools. The course covers the essentials of subjects relating to Engineering Design, drawing and selection of material etc. in addition to the hands on training in Computer-Aided Design & Drafting software such as 3D-Studio Max, AutoCad, Ansys, MDT and ProEngg.

The program thus develops the student’s ability to design an engineering system according to a given specification and to translate the concept of design into reality.

In addition, personality development modules are also integrated in the subjects, so that the students learn to work as a team and also to develop better communication skills and reflective thinking practices. This will enable the students to be more successful in the industry interface. As design and drafting skill are needed in all industries this course provides immense opportunity for employment amongst the manufacturing, contracting and consultancy units in Oman and elsewhere. In the first level the students are given a foundation in all key technical areas related to design and in the second level further focus is on specialized subjects in Design, drafting and Process Engineering.
