Objectives & structure of programme


On completion of the three Educational & Professional Development Modules at three level, students will have achieved exit competencies targeted thus equipping them with soft skills, knowledge and understanding of workplace requirements and Human Resource Developmental issues in wider context in and beyond Sultanate of Oman.  The holistic aim of the modules is to prepare confident Engineers who

  • conduct themselves professionally and observe high standards of Personal and Professional Ethics
  • are reflective professionals and can identify personal strengths and weaknesses and draw up an action plan to translate weaknesses into strengths
  • are effective team workers with strong interpersonal and intra personal skills
  • are aware of workplace based challenges and are prepared to cope with them
  • have an aptitude for leadership with creative and innovative ideas to explore business opportunities in Oman

PD modules are offered at three levels:

Personal and People Skills Development

This module focuses on the personal ethics. This module prepares the student with the study skills required to meet the academic rigours of Higher Education. Concepts such as time management, planning and organising skills will be introduced.

Students will learn to evaluate their current competencies and setting SMART targets to transform their weaknesses into strengths. 

hey will also learn to develop their academic writing skills, information gathering and report writing skills, referencing skills and ways to avoid plagiarism

Professional and Employability Skills Development

This module focuses on the professional and work ethics. This module will prepare students to develop forward planning, target and goal setting, evaluating strengths and weaknesses through performance appraisal, reflection, team work skills, and interpersonal skills.

Students will also be introduced to effective CV writing and will be prepared to face job interviews through mock interviews and feedback on performance.

Advanced Life Skills Development

This module focuses on the small and medium enterprises and business ethics. This module will introduce students to advanced research skills, ethics in professional practice, entrepreneurship, leadership skills, emotional intelligence and key competencies for engineers.

Students will carry out research on life skills and during the process develop interviewing skills.

Students will be exposed to the skills of business planning.

Students will also be exposed to the skills of planning, presenting and facilitating a workshop.
