IEEE STUDENT BRANCH

The Caledonian College of Engineering IEEE Student Branch was conceived in January 2004. It was formally inaugurated by Dr Abdul Nassir Hossin, Professor and IEEE branch counselor of Sultan Qaboos University on 20th October 2004, who also gave a very motivating lecture. Thereafter, it has been a regular practice to conduct events to sharpen the skills of IEEE Student Chapter of the College. The IEEE Chapter has contributed in organizing two Technical Paper contests successfully and is continuing to strive for student development. The goal of the IEEE branch is to provide its members with resources (both academic and social) which will assist them in finding technical careers in a changing marketplace. Through the use of workshops, conferences, journals and networking opportunities provided by IEEE, the Caledonian branch has quickly grown and now includes members from many technical areas including Computer, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering.

The IEEE Student Chapter of Caledonian College of Engineering has since its inception from the very humble beginnings seen various major events and set milestones. Today the IEEE Student chapter is proud to announce a record membership of over 30 students from disciplines of Electronic, Mechatronics, Telecommunications, Power and Computer Engineering. Many memorable events have been held earlier this decade and many more are yet to materialize in the coming months of the academic year. The Student Counselor of the branch is Mr. Rajkumar.
With an Executive Committee setup, the IEEE  student branch is committed and well positioned to achieve its goal of being a critical element in preparing its members for their careers as well as improving technological awareness among them. The current office bearers include student executives who are very active in their meticulous approach to enlighten about the IEEE and enlist potential student and professional members during the recent IEEE membership drive held on November 2008. Their indomitable spirit and enthusiasm enabled the IEEE Chapter to spread its wings to all avenues of Engineering programs.

Benefits of joining IEEE

Student branch gives the opportunity to meet and learn from fellow students, faculty members and professionals in the field. It is very assertive in motivating the students to participate in conferences, leadership training workshops and develop leadership qualities and team building skills and encourages the students to participate in project design and student paper contests.
