The Department of Mathematics and Statistics had been established in response to the growing requirements of Oman for skillfully trained engineers with  sound knowledge of Mathematics and Statistics. The Department caters to the need of Mathematics and Statistics courses being taught across the College into various Engineering programmes. Dynamic, dedicated and qualified faculty is to communicate the intricacies of the subject along with the intrinsic beauty in an enthusiastic manner emphasizes to meet its obligations to the community and in turn to the nation.
The department gives adequate training and prepares the students so that they are highly solicited in industry, service companies and government to undertake key responsibilities in the growing economy of this country. At this juncture, Mathematics / Statistics in all its forms have been the center of attraction to the development of the national economy, playing a fundamental role in the technology advancement.

Mathematics had been studied in past centuries less for the present vocational tendency, but more for the intrinsic training of the mind and for the intellectual beauty of the subject. In the current scenario, the education is more focused on preparing for an exciting career, where employer demands the logical skills that is possible with mathematical aptitude. To meet the growing demand the department also offers the software based subject learning for research and educational purposes at Mathematics Learning Resource Center.
The department is actively involved in research in wide range of Mathematics / Statistics applications but is particularly specialized in Reliability Modeling and analysis of systems.
The main objective of the department is to provide strong mathematical background to students of engineering to cope up with the needs of emerging technologies at national and international levels. The department also supports the interdisciplinary research activities. It emphasizes in meeting its obligations to the community and to the nation. The department plays its key role in offering high quality teaching and innovative research methods.
