Modes of Study

Caledonian College of Engineering offers three different modes in the Foundation programme at both levels

  • Full Time (FT). This is for students coming from Secondary schools.  If you are selected  for this mode  you will have 25 contact hours and 5 hours of self study between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Wednesday.
  • Part Time (PT). If you are a mature student in employment and can only attend the college in the evening, this mode of study is for you. Your contact hours are reduced to 18, but some components are given as directed study and you are still expected to complete the five hours of self study every week.
  • Special Part Time (SPT). If you work in the interior on a duty rota and want to take advantage of your leave days to get a higher qualification you will opt for this mode. You will study with students in the part time mode, but will be expected to come to the college during the day to use the library and for extra tutorials with your class mentor

NB: Because a significant part of the programme for PT and SPT students is assigned as directed study, the materials are available on Blackboard and students are expected to correspond with their teachers through email (see learning support on page 12)
