Caledonian Hosts 19th Careers Fair for Students

Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE) inaugurated its 19th Annual Careers Fair under the patronage of Mr Sheik Khalid bin Hilal Al Yahmadi, CEO of ASAAS, Muscat National Development and Investment Company, Sultanate of Oman, on 20th March 2017. Organised by CCE, this careers fair brought together more than 35 organisations which, over the course of two days from 20th to 21st of March, provided opportunities for graduates to meet, discuss and explore avenues of successful career planning.

In the welcome address, Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi, Dean of CCE stated: “We consider Careers Fair to be as one of the key events in the College’s academic calendar, providing an opportunity for employers to meet our graduates and recruit potential candidates, and at the same time providing a platform for students to learn about the job market and potential employers. We train and develop well-rounded graduates as required by industry and work hard to maintain a strong relationship between suppliers and consumers in the job market, essential for creating the most effective employment environment.” The Dean of CCE went on to highlight college students who have recently developed a commercially viable product from industrial waste – a project that has won considerable recognition: “This is evidence of the meaningful interaction between academia and industry and sets an example as  to how industry and community needs can be met by an academic institution such as Caledonian”.

Caledonian College was honoured to have this year’s Career Fair inaugurated by Mr Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal Al Yahmadi, CEO of ASAAS (Muscat National Development and Investment Company, Sultanate of Oman) who spoke of how the relationship with industry and academic institutions like CCE can help to produce graduates who can meet the requirements of individual industries and the future trends in the job market.  He also spoke about the need to explore opportunities in emerging sectors like tourism, logistics and transportation as the Sultanate of Oman is giving more emphasis to diversification from non-oil sectors.

The companies participating in Careers Fair were given exhibition stalls at the college’s Centre for Research and Innovation, at CCE’s Al Hail Campus. This enabled company representatives to meet engineering students and to interview and recruit outgoing engineers for employment, training or internship placements. The first day of the careers fair was open to CCE graduates and students and the second day open to students of all colleges and schools in Oman as part of CCE’s commitment to social responsibility.

In his vote of thanks, Prof K P Ramachandran, Associate Dean (PG and Research),   expressed his sincere thanks to government and private organisations for their continued support of Caledonian’s annual Careers Fair. He also thanked returning participants for their inspiring advice and comments while welcoming and appreciating the interest of new companies who joined Caledonian’s Careers Fair for the first time.
