Team Khanjar is getting ready for Shell Eco-Marathon competition

Since 1939, Shell researchers have been experimenting on vehicles that could make more mileage per gallon (mpg) of fuel and now annually, since 1985, young engineers and scientists have been challenged to develop vehicles that can make extreme mileage on a gallon. Keeping in mind the threats our environment is currently facing, Shell created a global student competition the Shell Eco-Marathon competition, inspiring them to not only look for other alternatives of energy, but also, to improve and optimize the ones that can be found today. This seventy-nine years old annual competition promotes designing energy-efficient vehicles for marathon. Young students from diversified backgrounds around the world participate to build and test energy efficient vehicles that cover extreme distances with least amount of energy spent.

In Our University, The College of Engineering gives due importance and support to project ideas in the fields of energy and innovation. In this respect, Our college have participated in the prestigious Shell Eco-Marathon event on two occasions in previous years in 2015 and 2016 in Manila,Phillipines in the Shell Eco Marathon Asia challenge in the name of ‘Team Sadarah’ in Battery Electric vehicle category. The past experiences have encouraged the College of Engineering to select a team consisting of 10 students from different disciplines under the alias of “Team Khanjar” with lot of aspirations and confidence to take up this engineering challenge.

The team is on track to design a Gasoline operated energy efficient vehicle to participate in March 2019, Asia competition. The MoU is already signed with M/s. Shell Development Oman LLC which provided seed funding of OMR 5000 to help the team. The overall required budget for this project is 15000 OMR. Al Siraj Holding LLC has given Platinum sponsor for the Shell Eco Marathon Asia-2019 in which Al Siraj Holding LLC have sponsored OMR 3000.
