24th Graduation and Awards Ceremony of College of Engineering

The College of Engineering under The National University of Science and Technology, proudly honoured 720 Graduatesat its 24th Graduation Ceremony on 5th December.The Graduation held at the Caledonian Campus saw an august gathering under the patronage of His Excellency, Ahmed Mohammed Salem Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport andCommunications.18 students graduated with Masters: 3 in Process Engineering from VITU, 18 in Process Engineering, 10 in Construction Management and 2 in Maintenance Management. 94 students graduated with Bachelors in Chemical Engineering, 604with Bachelor of Honours degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering and Mechatronics. The GCU Graduates were capped by Professor Pamela Gillis, Vice Chancellor, Glasgow Caledonian University, UK and the certificates were presented by His Excellency, Ahmed Mohammed Salem Al Futaisi, Professor Simon Jones, Vice Chancellor National University of Science and Technology, and The Dean, Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Balushi.

The College of Engineering also presented special awards for high achievement.  These included the Caledonian Gold Medal for Academic Excellence, the Late Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Fannah Al Araimi Citizenship Award for outstanding contribution to the college and to the student community, and the Caledonian Meritorious Award Postgraduate and Undergraduate for those excelling in each engineering discipline and at each level. Azwad Fuad of BEng Honours (Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering) bagged the Caledonian Gold Medal for Academic Excellence, Under Graduate Programme; Ms Shameem Banu Basheer Ahamed was awarded the Caledonian Meritorious Awards in MSc Construction Management. Mr. Mohammed Ahmed of Computer Engineering and Ms. Waleeja Mateen received the Late Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Fannah Al Araimi Citizenship Award.Ms Shadha Al Tobi, Chemical Engineering Graduand and Ms Alaa Khalfan Mohaamed Al Ghaithi, Masters in Construction Management gave the Valediction Speeches. 

The Graduation was attended by dignitaries, ambassadors and the members of the Board of Trustee. The college acknowledged the outgoing Board of Trustees of Caledonian College of Engineering for their support and contribution in college’s strategic direction. The outgoing members of the Board of Trustee received a token a acknowledgement. Dr Younis bin Khalfan bin Aziz Al Akhzami ,Chief Executive Officer - Public Authority of Manpower Registry;  Dr Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Bin Salem Al Rahbi -Director General - HR Muscat Municipality; Ms.Massarah Abdul Lathif - Former Director General, Private Universities & Colleges, MOHE; Dr.Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Zakwani - Executive Director – Industrial Innovation Centre; Engineer Abdullah Bin Mohammed bin Nasser Al Saadi - Former Director General Road Supervisory, Muscat Municipality; Mr.Saif H Al Hinai - Former Oil Director Nort, PDO; Mr.SureshK.Virmani - Former Managing Director, Bahwan Engineering Co;Engineer Hassan Al Nabhani - Former DG Ministry of Agriculture; and Engineer Mubarak bin Juma bin Said Al Araimi - Former Director General of Projects, MHEW;

The Engineering College collaborates with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) in the UK, with VIT University in India and with University of South Carolina, USA. Through these partnerships, the college offers four-year degree and honours degree programmes approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.

In addition to work place experience, College of Engineering also emphasises on Entrepreneurial Skills Development and soft skill training in all programmes, something described by the Dean, Dr Ahmed Al-Bulushi, as a unique aspect of a Caledonian degree:“Students need to have the basic subject knowledge and deep expertise in their specialisation; however, we believe they equally need development as individuals so that they can work effectively and operate in teams, across disciplines.” The College of Engineering has active Student Chapter of The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE).

The college of Engineering is witness to growing interest in Engineering amongst the female students and has 52% female students. The college of Engineering has joined hands with Oman Society of Engineers and formed Caledonian Women Engineers Forum that aims to support women engineering students in equipping, inspiring and empowering them to take engineering career in a predominantly male dominant field.

The National University of Science and Technology, College of Engineering is a sector leader in engineering education and hashigh employment success ratewith nearly 70% of college students entering employment or further studies.

The program concluded with sincere thanks to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for his visionary leadership and with prayers to Almighty for his good health and long life. The management of National University of Science and Technology congratulated the graduating students and their parents. The support of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Health was duly acknowledged.
